Mission Statement for “Little America”

Drafted by Thomas Jefferson between June 11 and June 28, 1776

Our goal is to provide housing, community, and employment opportunities to developmentally challenged persons.

Through the employment opportunities, grants, charitable contributions and the additional funds of the people involved, this will be a self sustaining community.

What we do is give the developmentally delayed persons that live here  the right to have as normal, independent, and fulfilling a life as possible, so that they can feel the same self gratification as any other “Normal” person feels on a daily basis.  Little America will assist where necessary with daily living skills and work skills.  We want our people to feel that they are contributing to society, and for the community in general to feel like our village is an asset rather than a hindrance.

Community individuals will be allowed to live as they want, in their own homes, at their own pace, for as long as they wish.  Family interaction will be appreciated.  Work/employment will be encouraged on an individual’s skills/needs/desires.
